Interpret the Records

The format of Diuguid's burial records varies greatly depending on the year the record was made. It can be challenging to decipher an individual entry, especially before 1896, when W.D. Diuguid began using a pre-printed form with labels.

Records from this period are very straightforward and easy to understand. This format is noteworthy for the substantial enlargement of the funeral expenses and payments section.

1930-1950

Records from this period are essentially duplicate copies of official Commonwealth of Virginia death certificates. For the first time, there is only one entry (i.e., one person) per record page.
